Welcome New WC Students!!!

Posted: September 7, 2011 in Uncategorized

Welcome new WC students. You are each about to embark upon an exciting and life changing experience. I remember entering WC, 3 years ago as a student, full of excitement, yet fearful about the unknown. Who would my new friends be? What would the professors be like? Would I pass my classes? Who will I eat with in the TOP? What will my roommate be like? How will I ever survive on my own? These questions faded quickly as I hope yours has as well.  Now you are faced with questions such as; What organization should I join? Should I stay on campus this weekend or go home? When will I have free time to hang out with my new friends? What clubs can I join? And most of all how am I going to do all this homework?  But I am here to tell you that you can get it done, as well as find time to hang with friends and join greek life as well as clubs and organizations.  So we wish you the best of luck in the huge step to your future.

JOIN THE CHALLENGE!

Support local food. Support your community.

Join the Eat Local Challenge and get a taste of all the great local food and festivities you can enjoy throughout the fall!

The Eat Local Challenge (ELC) is a week long celebration of local food in our community. From October 25-30, 2010, we invite you to enjoy featured “ELC” autumn specials at local restaurants, take part in community food-focused events, and explore fun “on your own” activities that will help you and your family celebrate the fall harvest.

Pick up your ELC scorecards (that will guide you through the week and help keep track of completed activities) at the Center for Service and Civic Engagement, or in town at Swindler and Son’s Florists, Jen’s Deli, or the Clinton County Visitors’ Bureau.  You can also download a scorecard HERE.

You will receive a sticker for every activity you complete at participating businesses. “On Your Own” activities are on the honor system – so just initial those activities as you accomplish them.  Once you have completed at least 6 of the events included in the Challenge, you can enter to win over $100 in local prizes.  Just drop your scorecard off at Swindler and Son’s Florists throughout the week to be entered in the drawing. All scorecards must be entered by 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 30th. The drawing will take place on Monday, November 1st.

FALL FEST 2010

Posted: August 31, 2010 in Uncategorized

WELCOME CLASS OF 2014!!!

This brand-new “BUY LOCAL WILMINGTON COLLEGE” site is exclusively dedicated to connecting YOU – the Wilmington College student – to the local community.

Our goal is to provide you with up-to-date information, honest reviews, insider perspectives, student specials, upcoming event schedules, and more when it comes to things in and around the local community.

You might notice that some of our profiles are outside of the Clinton County community. While we always believe in buying, shopping, eating, and playing locally first, we also want to show you some of the great things surrounding our community. You don’t have to leave town every weekend for the entire weekend just to have a good time or find new and exciting things to do.

Since we are a brand-new site, you will be seeing lots of continuous updates, added profiles, and maybe a few typos. Some of the things to look forward to will be a section of salons/spas; an event calendar; an interactive map; and lots more profiles. We welcome your feedback, appropriate comments and reviews, and profile suggestions. You can contact us at “buylocalwc@yahoo.com” or call WC extension 488.

Special thanks to WC students (and alum) Travis Ellenberger, Ben Lowe, Nathan McDermitt, Tess Barnett, and Tyler White for all their photo-taking, business-reviewing, entertainment-enjoying hard work that they put into making this site possible!

Enjoy and BUY LOCAL!
